Amping up Hounds hockey excitement
When OHL rivals enter GFL Memorial Gardens this winter, there’s no doubt they’ll know whose house they’re in.  Over the summer we partnered with OES Scoreboards to bring state-of-the-art scoring and video display technology to GFL Memorial Gardens. The additions easily make the Gardens the most modern and technology advanced arena in the OHL.

“We’re thrilled to work with the Soo Greyhounds, one of the legendary organizations in the OHL, as well as have the opportunity to help the city to bring more excitement to hockey games and special events. We look forward to helping spread the word on this excellent facility, fantastic hockey team and incredible fans” said Jeff Stewart, CEO OES Inc.

Catch every moment of the on-ice action
Best seat in the house is now every seat with our new four-sided OES video display at centre ice. The visually impressive display is comprised of four curved 6mm OES video screens complete with two 6mm OES video screen rings above and below the main display. The video display boasts almost two million LED pixels and will draw everyone watching into Greyhounds ice action moment by moment.

We’ve also added new OES hockey scoreboard, goal lights and updated cameras to ensure every hockey moment is captured. OES designed and installed a new hockey control room complete with content management software and integrated instant replay system.

New Acrylic Shielding
The Soo Greyhounds are pleased to announce the City of Sault Ste. Marie has procured Athletica Sport Systems to upgrade the board & glass system in the GFL Memorial Gardens.

The Ontario Hockey League has adopted a policy for facilities to upgrade to a National Hockey League approved board & glass system by the 2021 season. The City of Sault Ste. Marie continues to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to player & spectator safety by completing this initiative by the beginning of the 2020/21 season.

The new system has cutting-edge technology, featuring:
–  Soft Cap on top of the boards that absorb 96% more force than standard systems
–  Acrylic shielding with one-of-a-kind impact-absorbing design
–  Shielding and board systems flex upon impact easing strain on player’s bodies
–  Curved acrylic on ends of benches

LED Lighting Upgrades
Upgrade of the lighting around the parameter and above the ice surface to LED high bay fixtures. Moving to LED lighting will promote energy conservation and improve lighting conditions to help meet user group lighting standards. The project will also include a lighting control system that will improve the flexibility of facility lighting and accommodate different uses.
