Schenkel settles in the Soo

Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis announced the commitment of one of the team’s goaltenders today.

2020 Fifth Round Selection, Charlie Schenkel, signed a standard player agreement and education package with the Program.

“Charlie was extremely motivated coming into training camp this year. He’s a confident goaltender and based on raw skill alone – athleticism, size and ability to play the puck and command the ice, we think he’s just scratching the surface of how good he can be in our league” began the Hounds GM.

Raftis added “We are very excited to partner with Charlie in helping him reach his potential and are thrilled to have Charlie as a part of our program moving forward”

Last season the Charlie played for Kimball Union Academy in New Hamphire, USA.  The Ottawa, ON native appeared in 4 games compiling a 2.62 GAA and .887 SV%.

One year previous, the 6.05, 193 lb netminder played for the Rockland Nationals U18 AAA where in 22 games played he had a 14-4-2 win-loss record to go along with a 2.08 GAA and .924 SV%.

“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to play for the Soo Greyhounds. The people of Sault Ste. Marie have energy, grit and passion for hockey.  I immediately felt at home as soon as I entered the GFL Memorial Gardens.  Thank you to the fans, the Greyhounds staff and my billet family for making me feel so welcome” said an appreciative Schenkel.
