By raising his stick and firing the puck, Robert Calisti has succeeded in breathing life into the Soo Greyhounds playoff hopes.
Calisti scored a power-play goal at 2:54 of overtime on Thursday, giving the Hounds an emotional 2-1 victory over the Windsor Spitfires before 3,408 at the WFCU Centre.
With their margin for error shrinking, the Hounds (26-29-3-1) gained two points on the idle Erie Otters (24-22-4-7), moving to within three points of the eighth-place team in the OHL’s Western Conference.
Erie does have two games in hand.
“It was awesome,” Calisti said of the feeling he experienced as the shot beat Spits netminder Xavier Medina high to the glove-hand side. “I’m pretty excited. It’s a huge goal for us.”
Which is certainly an understatement.
The Soo has just nine regular season games remaining, including a Friday tilt in London (7:30 p.m.)
The Otters are in Guelph on Friday.
