Q&A with Ty Campbell

Last month the Ontario Hockey League conducted both their Priority Selection and U18 Priority Selection.
Through those two processes, the Soo Greyhounds welcomed eighteen (18) players to the Program.

Since then we started to introduce you to members of this year’s draft class through a ‘Q&A’ feature exclusively here on

Today we continue that by featuring the Greyhounds 10th Round Selection in the OHL Priority Selection – Ty Campbell.

Ottawa Myers AAA (2017-2020)
Smiths Falls Bears u18 (2021)

Most memorable moment:
Playing in Provincials in my major peewee season.

What is your main motivation on the ice?
To prove myself against the highest level of competition.

Hockey Idol?
Victor Hedman

What challenges did you overcome to get where you are now in hockey?
Not being able to have a full season last year and being stuck in lockdown.

What do you know about the Soo Greyhounds or the City of Sault Ste Marie?
I know they have a great fan base and it is a great environment to play in. I know they have great alumni with a long list of NHLers. 

Words of advice for a player aspiring to be drafted/play in the OHL?
Stick to your game and believe in yourself because others opinions don’t matter it’s just how you feel about yourself that matters. It does not matter where or if you get drafted it matters about the work you do after that.

What was the best vacation you ever took and why?
A Cruse through the Bahamas because of the weather and how nice the ocean was as well as the culture there.

Over the last 15 months during Covid, what has helped you stay focused.  What have you spent most of your time doing?
The OHL draft made me stay focused because that was a goal of mine to be drafted. Staying disciplined enough to workout and get better everyday to achieve that goal helped me a lot.
