Newest Hound Cloutier is thrilled

Story by Peter Ruicci (Sault Star)

He’s said to be a very fast skater.

On Friday, while saying he’s “super excited,” the pace with which winger Justin Cloutier answered questions matched that impressive foot speed.

“Oh man, it feels great to hear my name called by such a great organization,” said Cloutier, shortly after being chosen by the Soo Greyhounds in the first round (18th overall) of the 2021 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selections draft. “I’m very happy and my mom (Jennifer MacKinnon) is just as happy as I am.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the five-foot-eight, 165-pounder played in just four games for the Ottawa Senators U18 AAA squad this season. Cloutier finished with two goals and eight assists.

In 2019-2020, his last full season of action, Cloutier scored 23 times and assisted on 31 others in 29 games for the Ottawa Jr. 67s 15 (years) AAA club.

“I have my family with me, all four of my grandparents are here, my dad (Yves Cloutier) is away,” gushed Cloutier, who spoke of how he talked to his father shortly after hearing his name called. He’s always been there for me. He’s always coached me.”
