This Week in Hounds Nation; Dec. 8/16 Edition

The streak lives on for yet another game, as your Soo Greyhounds have now won nine (9) games in a row.

After another strong showing at the Essar Centre, including a thrilling four goal performance by forward Zach Senyshyn last Friday Night, the Greyhounds are on the road this weekend for one last time before the Christmas break.

Heading into action later this evening (7PM @ Niagara), the Hounds are the #5 ranked team in the latest CHL Top 10 rankings.

The Hounds made the jump from honourable mention, and became one of four OHL clubs to be ranked nationally.

They enter this trip with a record of 20 wins, 7 losses, 1 overtime loss and 0 shootout losses, good for 41 points and top spot in the West Division.

The Hounds lead the 2nd place Windsor Spitfires by a single point, while Windsor holds a game in hand.

Let’s take a look at what’s going on in “Hounds Nation”:

Thursday December 8 at Niagara Ice Dogs
7:00PM – Meridian Centre
The Greyhounds face off with the Niagara Ice Dogs at the Meridian Centre for the first of two meetings between the two clubs this season.

The much younger IceDogs, although the reigning Eastern Conference Champions, have had their ups and downs, with losses in each of their last four games.
Niagara is led by overage defenceman, and former Greyhounds draft pick,

Saturday December 10 at Erie Otters
7:00PM – Erie Insurance Arena
After meeting a few weeks ago at the Essar Centre, the Greyhounds are on the road to close out their season series against the Erie Otters this Saturday.

In the initial meeting of these two Western Conference rivals, the Greyhounds put on a strong performance and pulled out a big 6-3 win against the Otters on home ice by scoring three late, third period power play goals.

As the two teams prepare for the series finale, both clubs will be missing big pieces in the line-up with players reporting to Canada’s World Junior camp (SSM: Blake Speers and Zach Senyshyn; ER: Dylan Strome and Taylor Raddysh).

With both clubs receiving recognition in the CHL Top 10 this week, both the Otters (#4) and Greyhounds (#5) will be looking for two big points in the competitive Western Conference playoff picture.

Sunday December 11 at Hamilton Bulldogs
2:00PM – FirstOntario Centre
The Greyhounds close out a three game road trip on Sunday in Hamilton, as they take on the Bulldogs at the FirstOntario Centre.

In the initial meeting a few weeks ago at the Essar Centre, the Greyhounds were able to secure a 4-1 win over the Bulldogs, led by a two assist performance from Bobby MacIntyre.

With highly touted NHL Draft eligible forwards Matthew Strome and MacKenzie Entwistle, the Bulldogs are a team to watch in the Eastern Conference. The Greyhounds will be looking to keep things rolling and build off an active nine game winning streak.
