Hounds’ shine at OHL Gold Cup; Trio medal

One hundred and sixty players took to the ice in Kitchener, ON this past weekend for the 2017 OHL Gold Cup.

And the Soo Greyhounds were well represented in the tournament having nine members of their 2017 draft class participate (2nd most of ALL OHL clubs), three who reach the podium.
Representing the Hounds were Robert Calisti, Joe Carroll, Hayden Fowler, Alex Johnston, Tye Kartye, Cole MacKay, Zackery McMahon, Ethan Taylor and Kobe Seguin.

Then on Saturday Fowler scored the tying goal, on a powerplay, midway through the third period before his club advanced to the OHL Gold Cup Final where they fell 3 to 1.
Fowler and Team OMHA Black grabbed the silver medal.

Team HEO, featuring Joe Carroll (4th Round, 2017) and Alex Johnston (6th Round, 2017), completed the tournament preliminary games with the  top spot in Group A thanks to a 3-0 record before later capturing the Bronze Medal.  [GAME HIGHLIGHTS]

Through a total of five games in the tournament each, the Hounds had four players in top 15 of scoring;
Joe Carroll (6th), Hayden Fowler (8), Alex Johnson (11th) and Robert Calisti (15th).
Calisti (3rd Round, 2017) was the highest scoring defencemen in the tournament.

About the OHL Gold Cup
The OHL Gold Cup is an annual showcase event featuring top under-16 talent in Ontario. As part of the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence, select players from the OHL Gold Cup will be invited to attend the National Under-17 Selection Camp, where they will have a chance to compete with other top talent from across Canada, to earn a spot at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
