Hounds paving the way to the NHL

In a town of approximately 75,000 residents, hockey runs through the roots of Sault Ste. Marie.

And as the Greyhounds recently completed a 100-point regular season on the ice, they also continued their culture of success for it’s players.

Within the entire twenty-team OHL, there was just one (1) team that was lined with more active NHL draft picks/signees on their 2016-17 roster.
The Greyhounds featured eight (8) players that were property of professional clubs.

And while two (Senyshyn/Bouramman) were signed prior to the season, the subsequent seven-and-a-half months have seen an additional five inking NHL entry level contracts.

It began when Colton White and Captain Blake Speers both inked contracts prior to the start of the OHL regular season (RELATED:  “Devils Sign Prospects Blake Speers, Colton White) with the Devils, while North Olmsted, OH product Tim Gettinger made it official with the New York Rangers days before the regular season ended (RELATED:  “Rangers’ sign Tim Gettinger to entry-level deal”).

While just last week, both Jack Kopacka (Anaheim) and Boris Katchouk (Tampa Bay) became the latest Greyhounds to sign with their respective NHL clubs.

Considering the advancement and graduation from the Hounds is a formality, the team is poised to see four of their NHL prospect players return when the puck drops this coming September.

Add to the fact that four of their teammates (see below) are projected in the Central Scouting Final Rankings for the 2017 NHL Draft and one thing is certain.

The Greyhounds create an environment and culture that focuses on bettering their players both on-and-off the ice as players and people, but they also are paving the way to the next level for those that dawn the red and white.
