GAME PREVIEW; Feb. 11/17 – FLNT @ SSM

Northside Auto Group proudly presents tonight’s 3rd Annual “Hockey Fights Cancer” event.

On the ice, the Hounds square off in a West Division matchup with the Flint Firebirds.  It’ll be the sixth and final regular season meeting between the two teams.
And while the Hounds enter on a three-game winning streak, Flint comes to town unbeaten in their last 4 regulation contests.

Off the ice, fans are reminded they can take part in the festivities a number of ways.
The blind auction for tonight’s commemorative Hockey Fights Cancer jerseys will conclude on the concourse at Section 117 at the end of the first intermission.
In addition, there will be a “buckets of love” pass-the-bucket take place during the first period of play, while the chuck-a-puck proceeds go to the evening’s cause as well.

All proceeds this year go to support ARCH along with the Canadian Cancer Society’s “Wheels of Hope” program.

Tonight is the 6th and final regular season meeting between the Hounds and Firebirds.

Blake Speers and Jack Kopacka scored the only first period goals as the Hounds led 2-0 after the first;  while Flint cut into the lead early in the second, the Soo scored twice more in the period holding a 4-1 lead through forty minutes;  Flint scored three third period goals in a comeback attempt but it was Jack Kopacka’s 3rd goal of the game (2:55) that was the GWG

After Kole Sherwood opened the game’s scoring with his 23rd goal of the year the Hounds notched three unanswered goals (Miller, White, Speers) to have a 3-1 lead after the first;  Miller increased it to 4-1 1:06 into second;  Flint then scored 3 goals in 4:13 of third period to tie the game before winning in Round 5 of a shootout

Outshot Flint 10-4 in the first period and had a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal by Zach Senyshyn;  After increasing their lead in the second, Kopacka, Senyshyn and Hayton finished off the offense in the shutout victory;  Hounds held Flint to just 14 shots

Flint scored first before the Hounds built a 4-1 lead after first period thanks to goals by Senyshyn, Frost, Martin & Verbeek;  Hounds outshot Flint 38-33

Hounds battled back from three separate deficits before Mathieu Henderson scored OHL winner with 18 seconds left;  Frost, MacIntyre, Verbeek had SSM goals;  Hounds allowed 37SA

UNBEATEN STREAKS
The Greyhounds have put together a three-game unbeaten streak with wins at North Bay and versus Saginaw and Guelph.

For Flint, their four game regulation unbeaten streak has included games with Hamilton, Guelph, Kitchener and London.

GETTINGER RETURNS
After serving his 3-game OHL imposed suspension, forward TIM GETTINGER will return to the line-up for the Hounds this evening.

The North Olmsted, OH product comes into tonight 6th in team scoring with 23 goals and 17 assists (40 points) in 47 games played.

OHL LEADERS
Players from both sides sit respectfully among some of the leaders of various categories in the OHL.

Here’s a look at some of the players and where they are among their peers.

• Ryan Moore (7th) and Bobby MacIntyre (8th) are both among the Top 10 in OHL scoring

• Boris Katchouk leads the OHL with 5 short handed goals

• On the blueline Conor Timmins (6th) and Mathieu Henderson (7th) have put up good numbers for defenceman across the league.

• When games go past regulation time, these two rivals are 1-2 in overtime performance.
The Hounds are 7-2 in overtime and 3-1 in a shootout while Flint is 6-1 in overtime and 2-4 in a shootout.
